JCU Cairns IT Industry Collaboration
This documentation describes our Cairns based efforts for more industry
collaboration. What is all this about? In a nutshell, we're
aiming to generate good business outcomes and educational outcomes through
business-university cooperation in joint projects.
- One page overview.
- Status
- July 2003-June 2004:
Two projects have completed. The Stanton Database
Project by Ben
Ingram for the Wet Tropics Management Authority (WTMA) includes good
planning documentation (the WTMA have given permission for public access to
this
documentation). A sporting facility client database system by Shaun
Gilsenan has demonstrated effective use of modern i-Button technology instead of older
technology swipe cards.
- 2004: More than half of the 29 projects are running in response to
local business needs, as detailed in these 2004 projects lists for semester 1 and semester 2.
July 2004 note: The smaller August intake launched projects applying
sensor networks to improve efficiency in a tableland fish farm, and 2
applying new technology in a local furniture manufacturing company.
- 2005: This snapshot of 2005
projects shows current projects.
- 2006: This snapshot shows
current 2006 projects. In 2006, Chris Gaskett and Phillip Musumeci earned
a Carrick
Citation.
- 2007: This snapshot shows
current projects. In 2007, Colin Lemmon is running the individual project
subjects.
- Future projects
We are continually searching for and examining possible new projects.
You are welcome to contact Phillip Musumeci
or Chris
Gaskett (final year project organiser) with project proposals. Please
read the following more detailed information regarding what might make a
good project. We are also interested in a small number of projects that
can run in a shorter period such as one semester plus the break between
semesters (in effect, a fast tracked project). Our main office telephone
number is 07 4042 1211 (fax 07 4042 1298).
- Aims and Processes
This detailed information on our development
processes also includes a sample memorandum of understanding
between JCU and external partners, and discusses benefits, costs, and
related topics such as technology transfer.
- Student Companies.
