What do we need to do to design interactive systems to make them compatible with people’s “natural” and joyful acquisition and use of information in the world?
I welcome applications from prospective graduate students and interns who are interested in embodied interaction and designing technologies to support wayfinding in physical and computer-mediated environments. Please see my research and publications pages for indications of projects in the areas of:
Mobile Devices in the Wild
Situated Displays Supporting Enjoyment of Nature
Large Scale Gameworlds
Financial support may be available for exemplary candidates.
David Browning is a PhD student working on the interaction design issues for a situated display to support sharing and persisting memories of natural environments
Michael Fryer is an Honours student working on drawing systems to support wayfinding in large scale simulated environments
The following projects are immediately available:
Location-based mobile camera phone prototype game
Wayfinding data capture
Communicating viewpoint and perspective for collaborative wayfinding in large scale gameworlds
